VA Ann Arbor Health Care System

Dr. Sheila Rauch is Director of the Serving Returning Veterans' Mental Health (SeRV-MH) Program at the VA Ann Arbor Health Care System and Assistant Professor in the Trauma, Stress, and Anxiety Research Group in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School.

She is currently Principal Investigator on a multi-site PTSD treatment outcome and mechanisms study with OEF/OIF active duty service members and veterans through a DOD funded. She also directs the screening and outreach program that includes a longitudinal assessment of mental health and other case management needs for all OEF/OIF veterans registered at the VAAAHS.

Prior to her appointments in Ann Arbor, she was faculty of the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania (2000-2005) where she was involved in anxiety disorders development and treatment research with both Dr. Edna Foa and Dr. Ira Katz. Dr. Rauch has published scholarly articles and book chapters in the areas of anxiety disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) focusing on factors involved in the development and maintenance of anxiety, psychosocial factors in medical settings, and the relation between physical health and anxiety.

Dr. Rauch has been involved in the modification and adaptation of proven psychotherapeutic interventions for anxiety for various populations and settings, including primary care. She is currently a consultant on the Strong Star Consortium Primary Care PTSD study under the leadership of Lt. Col. Jeffrey Cigrang and is involved in the development of treatment for PTSD for use with active duty service members in primary care settings. She was recently tapped to join the VA/DOD Clinical Practice Guidelines Clinical Working Group for PTSD and the PTSD/mTBI Consensus Conference and also serves as a PTSD Mentor for VISN 11 and VHA PE Roll Out Trainer.
