Your clients may now have a better understanding of why it is important for them to be able to recognize distress in order for them to face challenges successfully.

Ask your clients about examples and scenarios related to situations in which they have experienced distress. Elicit typical coping strategies in an effort to discuss their distress tolerance skills. Determine their strengths and weaknesses in the coping skills they typically employ and keep this in mind as you present the rationale for distress tolerance.
