List of signs, symptoms, and behaviors of PTSD

  • Depression - feeling sad, down, or blue most of the time.
  • Anxious - nervous or tense; being alert to danger most of the time.
  • Startling easily in response to loud or unexpected noises.
  • Thinking about the trauma when you don’t want to.
  • Misuse of alcohol, street drugs, or prescription medicine to cope.
  • Anger and aggressive/violent behavior.
  • Reckless and aggressive driving.
  • Sleep disturbances such as insomnia, nightmares.
  • Withdrawing from friends and family; avoiding conversations about your experience.
  • Changes in appetite, or gaining/losing a lot of weight.
  • Having thoughts or talking about suicide, hurting, or killing someone else.
  • Having trouble working or meeting daily responsibilities.
