You can live a happier life whether or not your loved one is in treatment. You cannot control whether your loved one goes to treatment and you cannot control whether treatment is successful. Whether or not your loved one's PTSD improves, you can continue to look after yourself and live your life.

The skills that you have learned include:

  • Communication skills
  • Doing fun activities together
  • Taking time for yourself
  • Getting support from others
  • Rewarding your loved one's behaviors

These skills are meant to be long-term changes in your life. These changes will be important to you regardless of your loved one addressing their PTSD.
