When your loved one is drunk or high, CRAFT encourages you to ignore them rather than fighting, arguing, or having fun together.
To ignore substance-related behavior:
- Notice if your friend, family member, or partner is using or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Calmly tell your loved one that you will talk to them another time when they are not using alcohol or drugs.
- Do not engage in any activities with your loved one in this situation. This includes lecturing, nagging, yelling, or arguing.
- Choose a safe way to physically remove yourself from the situation.
