When your loved one is drunk or high, CRAFT encourages you to ignore them rather than fighting, arguing, or having fun together.

To ignore substance-related behavior:

  1. Notice if your friend, family member, or partner is using or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  2. Calmly tell your loved one that you will talk to them another time when they are not using alcohol or drugs.
  3. Do not engage in any activities with your loved one in this situation. This includes lecturing, nagging, yelling, or arguing.
  4. Choose a safe way to physically remove yourself from the situation.
