International Trauma Interview (ITI)
International Trauma Interview (ITI)
Description
The ITI is a free (public-domain) semi-structured clinician interview measure to assess for International Classification of Diseases (11th Edition; ICD-11) PTSD and complex PTSD (CPTSD). It is designed to be administered following the International Trauma Exposure Measure
or another structured trauma event assessment. The ITI includes items assessing the traumatic event, the 3 core PTSD symptoms of the ICD-11, the 3 core ICD-11 disturbances of self-organization (DSO), functional impairment related to both PTSD and DSO, duration, and global validity. For each symptom, standardized questions and probes are provided.
Administration and Scoring
The ITI was designed to be administered by clinicians or researchers with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a mental-health-related field who have knowledge of ICD-11 PTSD and CPTSD and have attended an approved ITI training workshop.
Scoring criteria are outlined in the interview itself.
Sample Item
When you are upset how easy is it for you to calm down?
Can you give me some examples of what makes you upset and how you react? (Any other examples? Do other people notice when you are upset? What do they see?)
