Description

The BAI-PC is a 7-item self-report that screens for anxiety, depression and PTSD, a subset of the original 21-item Beck Anxiety Inventory. The main benefit to the use of this screen is that it simultaneously screens for PTSD as well as other disorders that are highly comorbid with PTSD. Respondents are asked to rate items on a 4-point scale (ranging from 0 = "Not at all" to 3 = "Severely") to indicate the severity of each of the symptoms. The authors use a total score of 5 to indicate a positive screen for anxiety, depression or PTSD. This screen showed good sensitivity and specificity when compared to scores on the PCL, although it has yet to be compared to clinical interview. Those screening positive should then be assessed with a structured interview for PTSD.
