Transcript

Many people cope with their PTSD symptoms in different ways.

If you've found that your drinking has changed

after experiencing trauma, especially

if you find yourself drinking to help yourself fall asleep,

to help yourself after nightmares, or to make thoughts

or feelings go away, or to avoid something,

then PTSD treatment can actually be a great thing for you.

And if you have a concern that you're drinking too much

to benefit from PTSD treatment,

there are treatments that are specifically created

for Veterans who have both PTSD and substance or addiction

or drinking to cope with the symptoms.

And working with someone and developing healthier ways

to cope and learning to abstain or to reduce your drinking

to a healthier manner is something that can be

a great goal for treatment.
