Description

A workgroup from the Departments of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Defense (DoD) completed a revision of the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for the Management of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Acute Stress Disorder in 2023. The VA/DoD guideline is based on a complete review of the traumatic stress research literature since the 2017 CPG and offers recommendations for providers who treat Veterans.

The course explains the 2023 VA/DoD CPG development process. The author explains the recommendations related to complementary, integrative and alternative approaches to treating PTSD. Clinical implications for working with Veterans are discussed and resources to support clinical practice based upon the CPG recommendations are included.
